GOLD & COVE

Materials & Care

I’m really happy that you’re interested in my jewellery — and maybe you’re even already wearing one. To help you enjoy it for a long time, I’d like to share some care tips and information here.

If you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. I’m always happy to help and support you as best I can.

Materials

The term 925 sterling silver means that your jewellery is made of 92.5% pure silver. The remaining 7.5% consists of other metals, like copper. These metals add strength to the silver, making it durable and giving it a lasting shine.

An 18 karat gold plating means that the gold used
contains 75% pure gold. The plating itself is made of genuine 18k gold, which is applied onto another metal — in the case of GOLD & COVE, always 925 sterling silver.

It’s especially important to take good care of gold-plated jewellery to keep its shine lasting. You can find care tips further down under the section “Care.”

You might have noticed that your silver jewellery can darken over time. This is a completely natural process: silver reacts with the air, especially with the sulfur it contains. This causes oxidation, which leads to the darkening.

It’s important to know that this doesn’t mean your jewellery is damaged. It’s a normal reaction and can be easily reversed.
How to prevent and slow down tarnishing is explained in the care instructions further below.

All jewellery pieces from GOLD & COVE are made in Germany.

I use only 925 sterling silver to make my jewellery. If you order a gold-plated piece, the plating is always 18 karat gold (750 fineness).

Care

To keep your silver jewellery looking its best, store it in a dry, airtight place away from direct light. A jewellery box or soft pouch works well. It’s best to avoid keeping it in the bathroom, as humidity can cause silver to tarnish more quickly.

Just like with sterling silver, storing your gold-plated jewellery in a dry, airtight place helps keep it looking its best. A soft pouch or jewellery box, away from moisture and direct sunlight, is ideal. That way, the gold layer keeps its shine for as long as possible.

To keep your silver jewellery shining, a special silver polishing cloth works best—it gently removes light tarnish without scratching. For a gentle clean between uses, you can also wash your jewellery with lukewarm water and a mild, fragrance-free dish soap. Make sure to dry it thoroughly afterward to avoid any moisture. Avoid harsh or abrasive cleaners to protect your silver.

Gold-plated jewellery requires extra gentle care. The best way to clean it is with a soft, slightly damp cloth to gently remove dirt. Avoid using harsh or abrasive cleaners as they can damage the thin gold layer. After cleaning, make sure to dry your jewellery completely.
